The Drumshee Timeline began in 1997 with Nuala and Her Secret Wolf, taking a real Iron Age archaeological site in County Clare as the anchor for a series that would cover Irish history across thirteen books. Each novel introduces a new young protagonist connected to the Drumshee location, allowing the series to range across centuries without following a single family through impossible time spans.
The structure makes the series both a history resource and an adventure collection, with individual books readable on their own but cumulative in their effect for readers who follow the whole sequence. Harrison covers events specific to Irish history — the 1798 rebellion, the famine, the early twentieth century struggles — alongside crises like the Titanic sinking that had Irish connections.
The Drumshee Chronicles, a five-book follow-on series, continued in the same setting with a mystery focus, extending the world Harrison had built across the Timeline.
