The Dr. Constantine trilogy consists of three novels by Molly Thynne published in quick succession from 1931 to 1933: The Crime at the Noah’s Ark, Death in the Dentist’s Chair, and He Dies and Makes no Sign. All three were published late in Thynne’s career and represent the most fully developed work of her fiction output. Constantine himself is an unusual figure in Golden Age detective fiction: a Greek physician resident in England whose foreign background gives him a perspective on English society that the novels use to good effect.
The books are classic puzzle mysteries in the tradition of the period, with ingenious plots, closed-circle settings, and satisfying solutions. They have been well received by Golden Age revival readers and are often mentioned alongside other rediscovered women authors of the era. Reading the three books in order is recommended, though each has a self-contained plot.
