Donald Bain’s non-fiction career includes some of his most culturally notable work. Coffee, Tea or Me? (1967), which he ghostwrote, became a massive bestseller by presenting a comedic look at the lives of airline stewardesses. The book captured the spirit of its era and spawned sequels. Bain also ghostwrote Veronica Lake’s autobiography in 1969.
His later non-fiction includes The CIA’s Control of Candy Jones (2002), an account of alleged mind control experiments, and Murder, HE Wrote (2006), his own memoir about writing the Murder, She Wrote novels. These books show a writer comfortable moving between pop culture, true crime, and personal reflection.
