Donald Bain’s non-fiction works range from pop culture to personal memoir. Coffee, Tea or Me? (1967) was his first major success, a ghostwritten book that became a cultural phenomenon. He followed it with Veronica: The Autobiography of Veronica Lake (1969), another ghostwriting project for the Hollywood actress.
Later non-fiction includes The CIA’s Control of Candy Jones (2002), which examines alleged Cold War mind-control experiments, and Murder, HE Wrote (2006), Bain’s memoir about his decades of writing the Murder, She Wrote novels. The range of subjects reflects a writer who was comfortable telling other people’s stories as well as his own.
