The Dillman and Masefield series, also called the Ocean Liner Mysteries, is set aboard famous transatlantic ships of the early 1900s. George Dillman, an American, and Genevieve Masefield, an Englishwoman, work as undercover detectives hired by the shipping lines to handle crimes at sea. Each of the eight books is named after the ship where the mystery takes place.
Murder on the Lusitania (1999) opens the series. The books that follow take the pair aboard the Mauretania, the Minnesota, the Caronia, and other vessels. The confined setting of an ocean liner, where the suspect pool is limited to the passenger list, makes for tight, well-contained mystery plots. The series ran through 2007.
