Nicola Barker’s Digital Trilogy brings together three novels that experiment with how stories are told. Burley Cross Postbox Theft (2010) is constructed entirely from letters stolen from a village postbox. The Yips (2012) follows a golfer whose game falls apart as his life unravels. In the Approaches (2014) uses fragmented narrative to tell a coastal story.
The trilogy is connected by theme and approach rather than by characters or plot. Each book plays with form in a different way, and together they represent Barker’s most sustained period of formal experimentation before the even more radical H(A)ppy in 2017.
