Diana Wallis Taylor’s standalone novels take women who appear briefly in scripture and give them full stories. Journey to the Well (2003), her first novel, follows the Samaritan woman who meets Jesus at Jacob’s Well. Martha (2011) explores the life of the woman known for serving while her sister sat listening.
The later novels expand to figures from both testaments. Claudia, Wife of Pontius Pilate (2013) imagines the Roman governor’s wife during the trial of Jesus. Ruth, Mother of Kings (2013) retells the story of the Moabite widow. Hadassah, Queen Esther of Persia (2019) and Rahab, Woman of Jericho (2020) continue the pattern, each grounding a biblical figure in the politics and daily life of her time period.
