Paxson’s standalone novels cover a wide range of mythological and historical terrain. White Mare, Red Stallion (1976) was her debut, a Celtic historical novel. Brisingamen (1984) brought Norse mythology into a modern California setting. Paradise Tree (1987) and The White Raven (1988) draw on Arthurian and Celtic legend respectively.
The Serpent’s Tooth (1991) retells the King Lear story from the perspective of Lear’s daughters, set in pre-Roman Celtic Britain. Each standalone shows Paxson’s ability to work across different mythological traditions while keeping her focus on women’s experience and spiritual agency.
