Death in the Mouth is a horror anthology series edited by cartoonist and writer Sloane Leong and writer Cassie Hart. The series publishes original fiction and art by BIPOC and other ethnically marginalized creators. Volume 1, released in 2022, contains 26 short stories, each paired with an original illustration. The stories range across time and setting, from mythic pasts to speculative futures, all exploring horror from perspectives often underrepresented in the genre.
Volume 2 followed in 2025 with 20 prose stories and a similar mix of global voices. Contributors to the series include writers like K-Ming Chang, Sascha Stronach, Nadia Bulkin, and Richard Van Camp, alongside illustrators such as Anand Radhakrishnan and Sloane Leong herself. The anthology started as a crowdfunded project and has grown into a recognized venue for horror fiction that draws on non-Western folklore, colonial history, and lived experiences of marginalization.
