Jonathan Maberry’s Deadlands trilogy brings the popular tabletop role-playing game to novel form. Set in an alternate version of the American frontier where the dead walk and dark forces lurk behind every canyon wall, the series blends horror with the Western genre. Ghostwalkers (2015) launched the series, followed by Thunder Moon Rising (2016) and Boneyard (2017).
The Deadlands RPG has been around since the mid-1990s, and Maberry’s novels capture the setting’s mix of six-guns and sorcery. The books feature original characters navigating a version of the Old West that went sideways when supernatural forces entered the picture. Maberry, a prolific horror and thriller writer, was a natural fit for the franchise. Fans of both Weird West fiction and the Deadlands game will find these novels faithful to the spirit of the source material.
