David Wood’s standalone novels show the breadth of his interests outside the Dane Maddock world. Into the Woods is a historical adventure based on the true story of pioneer Jonathan Wood in southwest Virginia, dealing with threats from native tribes, the British, and other enemies on the frontier. The Zombie-Driven Life is a young adult comedy that parodies Rick Warren’s “The Purpose Driven Life,” following a high schooler navigating romance during a zombie apocalypse.
Dark Rite, co-written with Alan Baxter, is a horror story set in the Appalachian town of Wallen’s Gap, where Grant Shipman returns after his father’s death and discovers something sinister rising from the town’s bloody past. Reviewers compared it to early Stephen King. The Impostor Prince, co-written with Ryan A. Span under the David Debord pen name, returns to the fantasy world of The Absent Gods trilogy, set several hundred years later and following two young thieves caught up in something bigger than themselves.
