The David Cavanaugh series follows a criminal defense attorney in Boston who keeps landing the cases nobody else wants. Cavanaugh’s clients are often caught up in conspiracies that reach into the highest levels of power, and each book raises the personal stakes as he digs deeper into dangerous territory.
Sydney Bauer drew on her years as a crime and legal reporter in Australia to build these stories. The courtroom scenes have real procedural weight, but the books move fast once Cavanaugh steps outside the courtroom to investigate on his own. The series started with Undertow in 2007, which won the Davitt Award, and wrapped up with The 3rd Victim in 2011.
