The Darkhurst series is set in Ravenwood, a city where monsters roam the streets at night and the ruling class does little to protect ordinary citizens. Scourge (2017) introduces three brothers from a working-class family who take it upon themselves to fight the creatures threatening their neighborhood. Each brother has a different role: one works within the system, another operates outside the law, and the third is caught between the two approaches.
Vengeance (2018) and Reckoning (2024) continue the story as the threats facing Ravenwood grow worse and the brothers are drawn deeper into the city’s power struggles. The series has a grittier tone than much of Martin’s other fantasy work, focused on street-level survival rather than royal courts and magical wars. The long gap between the second and third books reflects Martin’s busy publishing schedule across her many other ongoing series.
