The Danny Hansen series follows a priest with a dark secret: he hunts down and kills criminals who escape justice through legal loopholes. The Priest’s Graveyard introduces Danny alongside Renee Gilmore, a woman rescued from the streets who becomes entangled in his world of vigilante justice. The book raises uncomfortable questions about morality, mercy, and whether violence can ever be justified in the service of good.
The Sanctuary continues Danny’s story after he is sent to prison. Behind bars, he encounters a warden running a private rehabilitation program that proves far more sinister than it appears. Cut off from the outside world, Danny has to rely on his wits and his faith to survive a system designed to break him.
These two books are among Dekker’s darkest and most grounded thrillers, with less supernatural content than much of his catalog. The focus here is on psychological tension, moral gray areas, and the question of what happens when a good person does terrible things for the right reasons.
