Daniel Polansky’s standalone novels cover a wide range of styles. A City Dreaming follows a drifter with magical abilities through a version of New York where rival sorcerer-queens battle for control, told in a loose, episodic structure. The Seventh Perfection is a novella-length puzzle box set in a strange theocratic city, told entirely through one side of various conversations.
March’s End takes on portal fantasy with a family whose members can cross into a fantasy world, while Tomorrow’s Children moves into science fiction territory. Each book shows a different side of Polansky’s writing, though his sharp prose and willingness to take risks stay consistent throughout.
