Polansky’s short fiction shows the same dark humor and tight plotting that made his novels popular. The Builders, published by Tor.com in 2015, is the standout here. It takes the concept of anthropomorphic animals and plays it completely straight as a revenge western, with gunslinging mice and knife-fighting salamanders. It got a lot of attention when it came out and remains one of the better novellas from Tor’s original fiction line.
meat+drink and Baby Teeth are shorter pieces that round out his bibliography. All three demonstrate that Polansky can do just as much damage at novella length as he can in a full novel.
