Daniel M. Lavery, who previously published as Mallory Ortberg, has written four collections that range from literary humor to personal essays to retold fairy tales. The earliest, Texts From Jane Eyre (2014), became widely popular for its imagined text conversations between fictional characters.
The Merry Spinster (2018) took a different approach with dark, strange retellings of classic stories. Something That May Shock And Discredit You (2020) mixed essays and humor, and Dear Prudence (2023) drew from years of writing the Slate advice column. These books are the same titles that appear under the Mallory Ortberg name.
