The Daniel Faust series is Craig Schaefer’s flagship work, running fourteen books from 2014 to 2024. Set in Las Vegas, the series follows Daniel Faust, a sorcerer who works as a fixer and con artist on the margins of the criminal underworld. When his jobs go sideways, Faust finds himself dealing with demons, rival magicians, and a shadowy federal task force that knows more about the supernatural than it lets on.
The books blend noir crime fiction with dark urban fantasy. Faust is not a traditional hero; he lies, cheats, and makes bad deals to survive. But the series builds a complex web of alliances and debts over its run, with consequences that carry from book to book. The supporting cast grows as the series expands, and several characters eventually anchor their own spinoff series.
Schaefer released the core novels alongside a few shorter companion pieces, including Full Metal Magic and Urban Enemies, which fill in gaps between the main entries. The series reached its conclusion with Dig Two Graves in 2024.
