The Damsels of Distress series takes classic fairy tale archetypes — Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel, Snow White — and rebuilds them within a LitRPG framework where the characters have stats, skill trees, and progression goals. All seven books appeared in 2025, with several having both standard and extended “A LitRPG Adventure” editions.
Krout’s approach to fairy tale retellings is consistent with his broader style: the humor is present, the game mechanics are taken seriously within the fiction, and the characters’ progression through their respective stories follows LitRPG conventions rather than traditional fairy tale logic. The series gives Krout’s existing fanbase a familiar structure applied to new source material.
