My Last Innocent Year (2023) is Daisy Alpert Florin’s debut novel. Set at the fictional Wilder College in New Hampshire during the winter of 1998, it follows Isabel Rosen through her final semester of college. Isabel, still grieving her mother’s death and conscious of her working-class roots at an elite school, believes she has finally found her place when a nonconsensual encounter with a fellow student throws everything into question.
The novel is set against the backdrop of the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, which creates an eerie national echo of Isabel’s private experience. Florin uses this historical moment to examine how young women’s stories were heard, and often dismissed, at the end of the twentieth century.
