Cory Doctorow’s standalone novels cover a wide range of science fiction territory. Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom (2003) imagined a post-scarcity future set in Walt Disney World. Eastern Standard Tribe (2004) and Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town (2005) followed, each taking different approaches to near-future technology.
Later standalone works include Makers (2009), about the maker movement and economic collapse, and Walkaway (2017), which explores what happens when people abandon traditional society to build something new. The Lost Cause (2023) turns to climate adaptation. Throughout these novels, Doctorow returns to questions about how technology, economics, and community interact.
