Toibin has been involved with anthologies throughout his career, both as editor and contributor. The Penguin Book of Irish Fiction and The Modern Library: The 200 Best Novels in English Since 1950 are among his most notable editorial projects. He has also co-edited collections of new Irish writing and contributed stories to O. Henry Prize collections.
These anthologies cover a broad range of subjects and periods. Some focus specifically on Irish literature, while others bring together writers from different countries and traditions. Finbar’s Hotel, which he co-edited, is a collaborative novel written by seven Irish authors.
