Jennifer Blake’s Classic Gothics represent the starting point of her long career. The Secret of Mirror House (1969) and Bride of a Stranger (1974) are traditional gothic romances with mysterious old houses, hidden secrets, and heroines in danger. Dark Masquerade, from the same era, continues in the gothic tradition.
Two of the novels, The Court of the Thorn Tree and Stranger at Plantation Inn, were reissued in 2013, bringing these early works back to readers who discovered Blake through her later historical romances. The books show the roots of themes she would explore throughout her career: Southern settings, power dynamics, and women navigating worlds controlled by men.
