The Children of the Lion series, published under the house pseudonym Peter Danielson, is a 19-book historical saga set in the ancient Near East. The story follows two family lines across generations: the descendants of Abraham and the “Children of the Lion,” a family of ironsmiths and weaponmakers marked by a distinctive birthmark who travel freely between warring peoples to practice their trade.
The series moves through major events of the ancient world, from the patriarchal era through the Egyptian captivity, the Exodus, the conquest of Canaan, and on to the kingdom of David. Published by Bantam Books between 1980 and 1995, the books blend historical and biblical settings with adventure fiction. The series was popular during the 1980s boom in multi-generational historical sagas, and its scope, covering centuries of history across nineteen volumes, gives it an epic sweep that few series attempt.
