Charlotte Bingham’s non-fiction reveals two very different sides of her life. Coronet Among the Weeds (1963) was her debut, a witty account of life as a young debutante that made her a household name. Coronet Among The Grass (2013) returned to similar territory decades later.
Her later memoirs took a more surprising turn. MI5 and Me: A Coronet Among the Spooks (2018) and Spies and Stars: MI5, Showbusiness and Me (2019) revealed that her father had worked for British intelligence, and that Bingham herself had been drawn into his secret world. These books added a spy story dimension to what had previously seemed like a purely social and literary life.
