The Charlie Priest series follows a Yorkshire Detective Inspector through 15 novels of police procedural crime fiction. Starting with The Picasso Scam (1995), DI Priest investigates crimes in the fictional town of Heckley, bringing a wry sense of humor and an appreciation for art to his police work. The series ran through A Very Private Murder (2010).
Stuart Pawson built each novel around solid detective work rather than flashy action. Titles like The Mushroom Man, Deadly Friends, and Limestone Cowboy reflect the range of cases Priest handles. The Yorkshire setting gives the series a strong regional identity, and Priest’s character develops steadily across the 15 books.
