Charlie Lovett’s standalone novels span fourteen years and seven books, from The Program (2008) to The Enigma Affair (2022). The most acclaimed are The Bookman’s Tale (2013), which follows an antiquarian bookseller into a mystery involving Shakespeare, and First Impressions (2014), which does something similar with Jane Austen.
The Lost Book of the Grail (2017) and Escaping Dreamland (2020) continue Lovett’s pattern of building mysteries around literary and publishing history. His earlier works, The Program and The Fat Lady Sings (2011), show a slightly different side of his writing before he settled into the rare-book mystery niche.
