Charles Brandt’s non-fiction catalog consists of four true crime books published between 2004 and 2022. The centerpiece is I Heard You Paint Houses (2004), in which Teamsters official and mob hitman Frank Sheeran confesses to the murder of Jimmy Hoffa. The book was later adapted by Martin Scorsese as The Irishman (2019).
His other non-fiction works explore related territory. Donnie Brasco: Unfinished Business (2008) expands on the story of FBI undercover agent Joe Pistone. We’re Going to Win This Thing (2011) exposes corruption in the FBI’s New York organized crime unit. Suppressing the Truth in Dallas (2022) examines what Brandt argues was a cover-up in the investigation of President Kennedy’s assassination.
