The Cases of Lieutenant Kane was E. H. Reinhard’s debut series, published across 2014 and 2015. The six books follow Carl Kane, a homicide detective working for the Tampa Police Department, as he investigates a series of murders in the Tampa Bay area. Each book focuses on a new case, but character development and personal stakes build across the full run.
Kane is a straightforward, work-focused detective who gets pulled deeper into each investigation than he expects. The series established the template Reinhard would use in his later books: a law enforcement protagonist, a specific American city as the backdrop, and murder cases that escalate in complexity as the series progresses.
