The Carson Ryder series begins with The Hundredth Man (2004) and follows Detective Carson Ryder of the Mobile, Alabama Police Department. Ryder handles cases that involve the most psychologically disturbed criminals, and his effectiveness comes partly from an uncomfortable source: his brother Jeremy, a diagnosed sociopath serving a prison sentence.
Across thirteen books, J.A. Kerley built a series that mixes police procedural elements with dark psychological exploration. The books range from The Death Collectors (2005) through to The Death File (2017), each presenting a new case while developing the ongoing relationship between the two brothers.
