The Carpetmakers’ Trilogy is set in Kidderminster, the historic center of England’s carpet-making trade. The Weaver’s Daughter (1990) introduces Rebecca Himley, the youngest child in a family of weavers, who enters service with the Pagnel family and gradually rises from the lowest rung of the household. Her position gives her a view of both sides of the industry: the factory owners who profit from the trade and the weavers who do the physical work.
The Weaver’s Dream (1991) and The Weaver’s Glory (1999) continue the family story across the century, as the carpet trade changes and the Himleys navigate the tensions between ambition, loyalty, and class. Originally published under the name Donna Baker, the trilogy reflects Harry’s years living in the Midlands, where she researched the local weaving industry firsthand.
