The Caroline Auden series by C.E. Tobisman is a legal thriller duology set in Los Angeles. Caroline Auden is a former hacker who has put her past behind her to practice law, but her talent for digging into digital systems makes her the right person for cases that nobody else can crack.
In Doubt, published in 2016, Caroline takes on a case involving a popular GMO that may be making healthy people sick. Proof, published in 2017, picks up after the events of the first book, sending Caroline into a new investigation when her grandmother dies and leaves her entire estate to a suspicious charity. Proof won the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction. Both books should be read in order, as Caroline’s personal and professional growth carries over from one to the next.
