The Bridge trilogy consists of Virtual Light (1993), Idoru (1996), and All Tomorrow’s Parties (1999). Set in a near-future version of California and Japan, the series takes place in a world that has split between corporate wealth and improvised communities, with the ruined San Francisco Bay Bridge serving as a squatter city that gives the trilogy its name.
The books are connected but each follows different characters. Virtual Light is a chase thriller involving stolen sunglasses containing secret data. Idoru deals with celebrity, virtual reality, and a rock star who wants to marry a digital entity. All Tomorrow’s Parties brings threads together around a moment of historical transformation.
