Brian K. Vaughan’s standalone graphic novels include Pride of Baghdad (2006), one of the most acclaimed single-volume comics of its era. Based on the true story of lions escaping the Baghdad Zoo during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the book uses the animals’ perspective to comment on war and freedom. Niko Henrichon’s painted art gives the book a distinctive look.
Spectators (2025) is Vaughan’s more recent standalone graphic novel. These independent works show a different side of Vaughan from his long-running series, offering complete stories in a single volume.
