Brandy Colbert has published seven standalone YA novels between 2014 and 2023. Her debut, Pointe (2014), follows a ballet dancer whose life becomes complicated when a childhood friend returns under troubling circumstances. Little and Lion (2017) explores the relationship between a Black girl and her white stepbrother through themes of mental health and sexuality.
Her later novels include Finding Yvonne (2018), The Revolution of Birdie Randolph (2019), The Only Black Girls in Town (2020), The Voting Booth (2020), and The Blackwoods (2023). Each book centers Black characters and tackles issues of race, identity, and community in ways that feel specific and grounded rather than abstract.
