Brad Parks’s standalone novels mark a shift from the lighter tone of the Carter Ross mysteries to more intense suspense. Say Nothing, published in 2017, put a judge’s family in danger and became one of his most acclaimed books. Closer Than You Know and The Last Act followed, each building elaborate scenarios around characters with limited options and mounting pressure.
Interference and Unthinkable continued the pattern of ordinary people facing extraordinary threats. Parks writes standalones that are self-contained enough to work as entry points for new readers, and The Boundaries We Cross and The Flack are his most recent additions to a growing body of standalone work.
