The Borne series is set in a ruined city dominated by Mord, a giant flying bear created by a biotech company before civilization collapsed. The first novel, Borne (2017), follows Rachel as she discovers a plant-like organism she names Borne growing on Mord’s fur. As Borne grows and develops, Rachel must decide whether it is a pet, a person, or something dangerous.
The Strange Bird (2017) is a companion novella that follows a creature created in a lab as she escapes into the same landscape. Dead Astronauts (2019) expands the world further, following three characters across multiple timelines as they try to destroy the Company that created both Mord and Borne. The series addresses environmental destruction, the ethics of biotechnology, and what it means to be alive.
