The Boldt and Matthews series is Ridley Pearson’s main adult crime franchise. Set in Seattle, the books follow homicide detective Lou Boldt and forensic psychologist Daphne Matthews as they work through increasingly complex cases. Undercurrents started the series in 1988, and The Body of David Hayes wrapped it up in 2004.
Pearson builds his plots around forensic details and procedural realism. The cases range from serial killers to arson investigations to kidnapping rings. The partnership between Boldt and Matthews is the thread that holds the series together, and their personal lives get as much attention as the casework.
