The Blue Ant trilogy consists of Pattern Recognition (2003), Spook Country (2007), and Zero History (2010). The series is named after an enigmatic global marketing firm that connects the three stories. Pattern Recognition follows a woman who is physically allergic to certain brand logos as she investigates a series of mysterious film clips appearing online. The later books expand the cast while maintaining Gibson’s focus on how branding, technology, and covert operations shape the modern world.
These novels represent Gibson’s shift from cyberpunk futures to what he called the present day being strange enough to write science fiction about. The trilogy is loosely connected, sharing some characters and the Blue Ant firm, but each book can be read on its own.
