The Bloomington series takes its name from the Indiana city where the stories are set, and Kathy L. Wheeler uses that Midwestern backdrop to ground her characters in a community where people know each other’s histories. The series started in 2012 with Irrepressible and wrapped up the following year with two more books.
The three novels follow different couples, each dealing with emotional baggage and the complications that come with second chances or long-buried feelings. Wheeler keeps the tone warm but doesn’t shy away from the weight of past mistakes. The small-city setting gives the books a familiar, close-knit feel without becoming claustrophobic.
At three books, the series is short enough to read in a weekend, and the continuity between volumes makes it worth starting from the beginning rather than picking up mid-series.
