Bloodlines is the spinoff sequel series to Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy, shifting the spotlight from dhampir guardian Rose Hathaway to Sydney Sage, a human Alchemist tasked with keeping the existence of vampires hidden from the world. The series opens with Sydney sent to protect Jill Mastrano, a royal Moroi vampire, at a high school in Palm Springs, California.
The seven-book series runs from 2011 to 2015 and follows Sydney as she questions the anti-vampire teachings of her Alchemist upbringing, especially as she develops feelings for Adrian Ivashkov, a Moroi vampire. The books deal with themes of prejudice, loyalty, and identity, set against a backdrop of vampire politics and magical threats. The series is a direct continuation of the Vampire Academy world but told from a very different perspective.
