The Blank Canvas series uses a tattoo studio as the central setting and the act of tattooing as a recurring metaphor — marking the body is permanent, and so are some of the changes the characters go through. Adriana Anders published all three books in 2017, giving the series a unified voice.
Under Her Skin introduces the world and the lead characters, establishing the studio setting and the emotional tone: these are people with damage, and the work of healing runs alongside the romance. By Her Touch and In His Hands continue with other couples from the same community, each book adding texture to the world Anders built in the first.
The tattoo-artist setting was relatively fresh in 2017, and Anders makes deliberate use of it rather than treating it as mere backdrop. The physical intimacy of the tattooing process feeds directly into how the characters relate to each other.
