One Day She’ll Darken (2008) is Fauna Hodel’s account of her life and her discovery of her family’s dark history. Hodel grew up in Sparks, Nevada, raised by an adoptive family. When she began searching for her biological roots, she learned that her grandfather was George Hodel, a Los Angeles physician suspected of murdering Elizabeth Short in 1947.
The book traces Hodel’s childhood, her search for identity, and the aftermath of learning about her grandfather’s alleged crimes. The title became more widely known after the TNT television adaptation I Am the Night (2019).
