Billy-Ray Belcourt’s collections span poetry and essays. This Wound Is a World (2017) won the Griffin Poetry Prize and established him as a major new voice in Canadian literature. NDN Coping Mechanisms (2019) followed with more poetry, while A History of My Brief Body (2020) moved into personal essays.
Coexistence (2024) is his most recent collection. Across all four books, Belcourt writes about Indigenous identity, desire, and the body with a directness and lyricism that has earned him a wide readership.
