Beyond the Circle is Ted Dekker’s return to the world he created in the Circle series. Published in 2018, this two-book sequence picks up the story of the Other Earth with a new protagonist: Rachelle, a young blind woman who discovers she is the 49th Mystic, prophesied to open a path between worlds. Like Thomas Hunter before her, she moves between two realities, but her story takes the mythology in a new direction.
The 49th Mystic introduces Rachelle and the stakes of her quest, while Rise of the Mystics brings the duology to a conclusion that also ties back to themes from the original Circle books. Dekker’s writing here is more introspective than in his earlier thrillers, spending more time on questions of perception, identity, and what it means to truly “see.”
Fans of the Circle series will find familiar territory here, with enough new ideas to keep things fresh. The Beyond the Circle duology was well received by long-time Dekker readers and stands as a satisfying extension of his most popular fictional world.
