The Lost World series introduced a new setting for Tom’s adventures, sending him into an uncharted territory filled with beasts unknown to the kingdom of Avantia. The first book, Convol the Cold-blooded Brute, was published in 2010, with the remaining five books following in 2013. The gap between publication dates means this arc spans two distinct periods in the Beast Quest timeline.
The six beasts in this series represent a wilder, more primordial type of creature than those found in Avantia proper. Hellion the Fiery Foe, Krestor the Crushing Terror, Madara the Midnight Warrior, Ellik the Lightning Horror, and Carnivora the Winged Scavenger each occupy a different niche in the ecosystem of the Lost World, from fire-based attackers to aerial predators.
The premise of discovering new territory gave the writers room to design creatures less constrained by the established Beast Quest mythology. For readers who had worked through earlier arcs, the Lost World offered a genuine sense of exploration alongside the familiar quest structure.
