The Avatars trilogy opens with So This is How it Ends (2006), set in a world where strange storms have wiped out most of humanity. A handful of teenagers in New York City survive and slowly realize they have been chosen as avatars of gods from mythologies around the globe. Each teen carries the powers and personality of a deity, but none of them asked for this role, and the gods themselves have their own agendas.
Shadow Falling (2007) and Kingdom of Twilight (2008) raise the stakes as the avatars discover that their awakening was not accidental and that a larger cosmic struggle is playing out through them. The series blends post-apocalyptic survival with mythology, following the teenagers as they try to hold onto their human identities while their divine powers grow stronger and harder to control.
