The Auschwitz Trilogy is Primo Levi’s central work. “Survival in Auschwitz” describes his year in the camp with the eye of a scientist and the conscience of a humanist. “The Reawakening” follows his nine-month journey home through Eastern Europe after liberation. “The Drowned and the Saved,” published the year before his death, returns to the camp experience with four decades of reflection.
These three books form one of the most important literary testimonies of the Holocaust, valued for their honesty and their refusal to reduce the experience to simple morality.
