Aunt Jane’s Nieces is a ten-book series by L. Frank Baum, published between 1906 and 1915 under the pseudonym Edith Van Dyne. The books follow three cousins as they travel and get into various adventures, from trips abroad to work on a ranch out west. Baum wrote these books as more realistic fiction, a departure from the fantasy world of Oz for which he is famous.
The series begins with Aunt Jane’s Nieces (1906), which introduces the three young women competing for their wealthy aunt’s fortune. Later books send the cousins to new locations and situations, including Aunt Jane’s Nieces Abroad, Aunt Jane’s Nieces in Society, and Aunt Jane’s Nieces on Vacation. The final book, Aunt Jane’s Nieces in the Red Cross (1915), reflects the wartime concerns of its era. These books remain available today as curiosities for fans of Baum’s wider body of work.
