Ashley Woodfolk’s standalone novels cover a range of young adult experiences. The Beauty That Remains (2018) tackles grief through three teenagers who are all connected to music. When You Were Everything (2020) is about a friendship breakup that feels as painful as a romantic one. Nothing Burns as Bright as You (2022) is a verse novel about an intense, complicated relationship between two girls.
Her more recent books include Louder Than Words (2024) and Call Your Boyfriend (2025). Across all of them, Woodfolk writes about what it means to figure out who you are during the hardest years of your life. Her characters are mostly Black girls and young women, and her prose is direct and emotionally honest.
